Search for Suspect Prompted Shelter-in-Place Notification
San Rafael, CA – On Tuesday evening, SRPD officers arrested Antoinae Tajzahnique Austin, a 30-year-old San Rafael resident, after she assaulted a victim with a knife and threatened another in two different incidents. Austin fled both scenes, prompting a search for her in a Terra Linda neighborhood. SRPD issued a shelter-in-place notification during that time. Austin was eventually located and taken into custody after a brief standoff. Austin was booked into the Marin County Jail on felony and misdemeanor charges.
On Tuesday, 08/12/2025, just before 5:30 PM, SRPD received an emergency call from a housing facility in the 3300 block of Kerner Boulevard. It was reported that a female suspect, who was a resident, had stabbed another resident in the stomach.
Officers arrived on the scene and learned that the suspect, identified as Austin, had fled the scene. SRFD paramedics attended to the victim’s injuries, which were determined to be non-life-threatening. Officers learned that Austin got into an argument with the victim and then suddenly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for additional medical treatment.
Officers were searching for Austin when, at 6:50 PM, SRPD received another emergency call of a female suspect who approached another person and made criminal threats to harm them while holding a knife. The incident occurred in the unit block of San Pablo Avenue. The description provided matched that of Austin. The victim in this incident was not physically injured.
While officers responded to that scene, it was reported that Austin fled into the open space. SRPD coordinated a search and requested additional assistance from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office UAV/Drone Team and the California Highway Patrol’s helicopter unit. Out of an abundance of caution and concern for public safety, a shelter-in-place notification was issued for the San Pablo Avenue neighborhoods.
At 7:50 PM, and as the search was occurring, SRPD received a call that Austin returned to the living facility on Kerner Boulevard. Officers ended the search in the open space and responded to Kerner Boulevard. SRPD also canceled the shelter-in-place notification.
Officers found Austin barricaded in a bathroom at the living facility. Austin refused to come out, and the San Rafael and Novato Regional Crisis Negotiation Team worked for 40 minutes to get Austin to surrender peacefully. Austin refused to surrender, and officers forced entry into the bathroom, where they took her into custody without further incident.
Austin was booked into the Marin County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon (knife), brandishing of a knife, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
