SRPD Officer Injured by Suspect with $100,000 Warrant
San Rafael, CA – On 08/01/2023, SRPD Officers located Rudy Manfredo Ipina-Guerra, a 24-year-old San Rafael resident, who had a warrant for his arrest. When the officers went to make the arrest, Ipina-Guerra resisted arrest and fought with the officers. During the struggle, one officer was injured and taken to a local hospital for additional medical treatment. Ipina-Guerra was booked into the Marin County Jail for the outstanding want and additional charges.
Just before 2:55 PM, an SRPD Officer saw Ipina-Guerra, a man recognized from previous SRPD arrests, walking along Harbor Street at the intersection with Front Street. The officer knew that Ipina-Guerra had a $100,000 misdemeanor warrant for his arrest that had been issued out of Sonoma County.
The officer attempted to detain Ipina-Guerra, but he did not cooperate. Another officer arrived on the scene, and they tried to take Ipina-Guerra into custody. Ipina-Guerra physically resisted and fought with officers during the arrest. During the incident, the suspect injured one of the officers.
Additional officers arrived on the scene and were able to take Ipina-Guerra into custody. Officers found that Ipina-Guerra had concealed an imitation BB-gun firearm in his backpack. It is unclear at this time why Ipina-Guerra had the BB-gun. Officers are looking into previous open cases to determine if Ipina-Guerra fits the description of any wanted suspect.
San Rafael Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene. Paramedics provided medical aid to the officer and transported the officer to a local hospital for additional treatment of a non-life-threatening injury. Paramedics also checked on Ipina-Guerra and determined that he had not been injured. As a precaution, Ipina-Guerra was still transported to a local hospital for a pre-jail booking medical evaluation, as is often required.
Ipina-Guerra was booked into the Marin County Jail for the Sonoma County warrant, felony obstructing an officer, battery on an officer, resisting a police officer, and possession of drugs.
The officer was later released from the hospital and is expected to recover fully.
