Marin County Fair 2023 - Traffic Control Measures After the Fireworks Show

San Rafael, CA – It’s that time of year; let’s plan ahead… from Friday, June 30, and running through Tuesday, July 4, the Marin County Fair will be in full swing.  The San Rafael Police and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office will provide law enforcement services at the fair to ensure a fun, safe, and inviting experience.  For more information about the fair and its schedule, please visit: https://www.fair.marincounty.org/2023

SRPD will manage traffic in the evening just after the fireworks show ends.  As in years past, a large number of fair attendees leave at the end of the fireworks show.  SRPD will be making safety a priority for attendees and will direct traffic as efficiently as possible based on traffic volumes.  Motorists and pedestrians will need to be patient during the evening hours as traffic delays to exit the fair are expected.  SRPD will also modify the timing of signalized intersections to further improve the efficiency of the vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow.  Delays exiting the fair could range from one to two hours or more every night.

Additionally, the Marin County Fair, Marin Transit, and SRPD have partnered to offer dedicated departure bus service from the main gate.  This bus service will take people from the Marin County Fair to Novato, the San Rafael Transit Center, and San Rafael’s Canal Neighborhood.  SMART will also operate an evening schedule to provide service to and from the fair.  Avoid congestion and consider the use of public transportation while visiting the fair.  For more about using public transportation to get to and from the Marin County Fair, please visit: https://www.fair.marincounty.org/2023/fair-guide/getting-to-the-fair

Every night of the fair, starting at 9:15 PM, those who wish to enter onto Civic Center Drive to access the fair and surrounding areas should expect significant delays that may last until midnight.  Traffic, transit buses, and pedestrians exiting the fair will be given priority until the fairgrounds and parking lots are cleared.

The Marin County Fair has also established the Civic Center U.S. Post Office parking lot as a pick-up and drop-off location.  People wishing to use ridesharing services, taxis, carpool, etc., can meet at the post office at 2 Civic Center Drive near the intersection with North San Pedro Road.  At 9:15 PM, motorists traveling north on Civic Center Drive from North San Pedro Road will not be permitted to enter due to traffic control.

SRPD welcomes everyone to visit the Marin County Fair and have a safe and enjoyable experience.  Please be kind to one another and exercise patience during traffic delays.
