Man Shot in the Foot During Armed Robbery
San Rafael, CA – The San Rafael Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they search for three suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery that left the victim shot in the foot. The robbery occurred in the area of Hoag Street and Mill Street in San Rafael’s Canal Neighborhood. The victim was treated at a local hospital and is expected to recover.
On 04/30/2023, just after 9:45 PM, SRPD Dispatchers began receiving calls of shots being fired around Hoag Street and Mill Street. Several callers described gunshots followed by someone yelling for help.
Officers arrived within 3 minutes and located the solo victim, who had been shot in the foot. Officers also spoke with several witnesses. Through the investigation into what happened, it was learned that while the victim was walking along the street, he was approached by three male suspects.
One of the suspects pulled out a firearm, threatened the victim, and demanded his wallet. The victim did not have a wallet. The suspect became upset with the victim and pistol-whipped him in the face. All three suspects then began to hit and kick the victim. At some point, the victim was able to start running away. As the victim fled, the suspect with the gun began shooting several shots at the victim. One of the gunshots struck the victim in the foot. The suspects then ran away and were last seen running on Mill Street.
SRPD Detectives are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the suspects involved.
The suspect that shot the victim is described as a male Hispanic adult, slim build, around 20 to 22 years old, and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and white shoes. The other two suspects were described as wearing gray sweats.
“It is important for us to protect the community by taking these suspects into custody and off the streets. Nobody should have to walk home in fear that something like this will happen again. We are asking the public to contact us if they know who the involved individuals are,” said Lieutenant Todd Berringer.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for the gunshot.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
