San Rafael Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography

San Rafael, CA – San Rafael Police Detectives arrested 50-year-old Paul Ebbert at his residence in San Rafael for possession of child pornography.  The arrest was the result of a multi-agency investigation that started in 2018.

In July of 2018, the San Rafael Police Department received a notification from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reporting an image of suspected child pornography which was uploaded to the internet by an unknown suspect.

Detectives worked in coordination with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, located in San Jose, to further investigate the case. Through a series of search warrants, detectives were able to isolate the location from where the image was uploaded.

In October of 2018, SRPD detectives and officers executed a search warrant on the 100 block of C Street in San Rafael.  Numerous electronics and data storage devices were seized during the search and then sent to the Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force for analysis.

During a forensic analysis of the computers and data storage devices, hundreds of child pornography videos and thousands of child pornography images were uncovered.

The case was forwarded to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for Paul Ebbert.  On January 10, 2019, Ebbert was booked into the Marin County Jail on a charge of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
