Juvenile Suspect Arrested for Attempted Robbery
On Monday, June 18, 2018, at approximately 7:58 a.m. Detective Corporal Michael Mathis was riding with another detective to conduct follow up on a case. Cpl. Mathis looked over and saw a male juvenile confront another male juvenile on the street. Cpl. Mathis saw the suspect shove the victim. The victim began backing away. Cpl. Mathis exited the unmarked police car and began to approach the two juveniles.
Upon seeing Cpl. Mathis, the suspect fled the area on foot. Cpl. Mathis spoke to the victim, who advised the suspect tried to rob him. The victim believed the suspect was armed with a knife. Cpl. Mathis recognized the suspect as a student at a local school. He contacted the school and learned the suspect had arrived to summer school but left again. Cpl. Mathis went to Northgate Mall to search for the suspect and saw him almost immediately. The suspect fled into the mall. Officers began searching the area. The suspect ran from officers again before being located by his own mother. The suspect’s mother turned him over to police.
The Fifteen-year-old suspect was taken to the Marin County Juvenile Hall where he was booked for attempted robbery, resisting arrest and violation of probation.
