Driver Arrested for Hitting Motorcyclist with his Car
On Tuesday, August 22, 2017, officers responded to the area of the San Rafael Transit Center, 850 Tamalpais Avenue regarding a collision involving a car and a motorcycle. During the investigation it was determined that the collision was an intentional act as a result of a road rage incident.
According to the involved parties and independent witnesses, the driver of a gray Hyundai made a right turn from south bound Hetherton Street onto west bound Third Street against a red light. The driver of the Hyundai nearly struck a motorcyclist that was travelling west bound on Third Street. While the two vehicles were stopped at a traffic signal at the next intersection, the rider of the motorcycle knocked on the window of the car and exchanged words with the driver. The motorcyclist then slapped the right side mirror of the car. The driver of the car backed up, turned the car toward the motorcycle and accelerated forward into it, causing damage to the motorcycle and injury to the rider.
John Sinclair, 44 of Novato was booked at the Marin County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The motorcycle rider, a 33 year old male from Alameda, declined medical treatment.
