Back to School Traffic Safety
The San Rafael Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement operations near city schools. The stepped up enforcement will be conducted during the first weeks of school and throughout the school year. It's never more important for drivers to slow down and pay attention than when kids are present – especially before and after school.
Drivers should be aware of children at intersections and crosswalks, be careful when following or approaching school buses, especially near bus stops, and DO NOT pass a school bus that is stopped with its lights flashing. Parents are encouraged to follow instructions from their school regarding specific drop off and pick up locations and never to double-park.
Our officers will be providing a very visible presence around the schools. Officers will be enforcing all speeding, distracted driving and pedestrian safety laws. This additional Police presence is a reminder to slow down and keep safe!
The San Rafael Police Department urges everyone in our community to help us protect our children by staying alert while driving.
