SRPD Police Officer Watches Drug Sales Transaction; Arrests Suspect
On August 5, 2019 at about 10:10 pm, San Rafael Police Corporal James Bellamy was patrolling in the area of Second Street and Tamalpais Avenue in San Rafael in a marked black and white patrol vehicle.
Corporal Bellamy observed a Silver Ford Fusion parked in a parking lot with a male, later identified as Robert JeanPaul Acheritogaray, sitting in the passenger seat. Corporal Bellamy saw a person standing outside the car on the driver’s side talking to Acheritogaray. He saw a hand to hand exchange between Acheritogaray and the person standing outside the vehicle which based on his experience and training was a drug sales transaction.
Corporal Bellamy contacted both parties and began an investigation into the suspicious activity. His investigation revealed that Acheritogaray was on probation in Marin County and Corporal Bellamy subsequently located marijuana, psysilocybin mushrooms, promethazine, scales, and other paraphernalia in the possession and control of Acheritogaray.
Corporal Bellamy arrested Robert JeanPaul Acheritogaray , a 28 year old resident of Corte Madera, for possessing narcotics for sale, possessing marijuana for sale, possession of a controlled substance for sale (promethazine), and felony and misdemeanor violation of probation. He was booked at the Marin County Jail. The other party was interviewed and released at the scene.
Please call SRPD if you see any suspicious activity at either 911, if an emergency, or (415) 485-3000, for a non-emergency. You may also leave information on our website http://www.srpd.org/tips.
