Gang Violence Arrest
San Rafael CA- On May 26, 2018, two San Rafael residents and one resident of Richmond CA drove to Pickleweed Park, located in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael, in an attempt to locate and fight with members of a rival criminal street gang. The three men confronted a small group at the park and called out their gang affiliation.
SRPD Officers were called to Pickleweed Park for the fight. Witnesses reported the fight and provided a vehicle description. Arriving officers saw the suspect vehicle a short distance away and stopped it. The occupants were identified, but at the time, the victims had left the scene and were not available to identify the suspects.
On June 11, 2018 SRPD Detectives and members of the Street Crimes Unit were able to find and interview the victims and witnesses. Witnesses and victims told SRPD that when the men exited their vehicle all three of them had knives in their hands. A victim reported that one of the suspects tried to stab him with a knife. Another victim ran from one of the suspects who threw a beer bottle at him. All three suspects were positively identified.
SRPD Patrol, Detectives and Street Crime Unit officers searched San Rafael and other areas in the Bay Area for the suspects. On June 13, 2018 Edward Carroll, a 36 year old San Rafael resident, was located and arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and for Participating in a Criminal Street Gang. On June 14, 2018 Erick Christofer Ajanel Ireta, a 21 year old Richmond resident, and Ricardo Luis Alvarez, 23 of San Rafael, were located and arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Participating in a Criminal Street Gang. Alvarez was also booked on a Probation Violation. All three suspects were transported to the Marin County Jail.
