Suspect in Felony Assault Captured by Police

San Rafael CA - On Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at approximately 6:00AM a resident at a senior housing complex, located in the West End neighborhood of San Rafael, called SRPD to report a man was crying in pain.  SRPD Officers responded to the scene and found the victim, a 66 year old San Rafael resident, in his apartment with multiple stab wounds to his face, neck, head and chest. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim and called for back-up in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Officers learned that the suspect and victim have known each other for more than five years. The suspect was an invited guest at the victim’s home and stayed overnight.  Early in the morning the suspect allegedly contacted the victim in his bedroom and stabbed him without provocation.

Several SRPD Officers searched the city for the suspect, identified by the victim as Unique Lashonda Gaimes, a 26 year old woman with past addresses in Pittsburg and San Rafael. Gaimes, was described by the victim as a Black Female, 5’2” weighing approximately 112lbs.  She was wearing a black long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and high-top tennis shoes.

SRPD Detectives responded to the scene and to the Transit Center  to determine if she used public transportation to leave the area. Detectives learned that Gaimes boarded a bus to leave the area. Gaimes took a Golden Gate Transit Bus between 6:00AM and 6:30AM and exited at the Del Norte – El Cerrito BART station.

On August 31st, 2017 Pittsburg Police were dispatched to check the welfare of an occupant of a room at the Motel 6 located at 2101 Loveridge Road.  When they arrived they contacted Unique Lashonda Gaimes.  Pittsburg Officers detained Gaimes for San Rafael Police Detectives who were conducting follow up in the area.  Gaimes was arrested and transported to San Rafael where she was later booked into the Marin County Jail on charges of PC 664/187 Attempted Homicide and PC 203 Mayhem.  The San Rafael Police Department wishes to thank the members of the Pittsburg Police Department for their assistance in the capture of Gaimes.
