San Rafael, CA – September 4, 2012. The 2012 Summer/Labor Day Holiday DUI Mobilization crackdown on drinking drivers has ended and resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from the Sobriety Checkpoints, Special Saturation Patrols and routine patrol in the Marin AVOID DUI Campaign for the past 18 days.
From 12:01 AM Friday August 17th, through Midnight Monday September 3, 2012 officers representing 13 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 97 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Saturday, September 2nd was particularly busy, with 15 DUI arrests in a 24 hour period. In 2011, 56 DUI arrests occurred during the same 18 day period.
On Friday evening, August 31st an AVOID checkpoint was held in San Anselmo on Red Hill Avenue at Ancho Vista Avenue. The following are the statistics from that operation:
Law enforcement officials will be conducting more Avoid anti DUI efforts throughout the county and region again during Halloween and Thanksgiving Eve before planning for the December Winter Campaign periods.
