New Chief Makes First Promotions

San Rafael, CA – January 15, 2012.  Police Chief Diana Bishop has finished up her first week in office and is pleased to announce her first promotions.  Chief Bishop promoted Corporal Lisa Holton to Sergeant, Officer Kyle Hornstein to Corporal, and Cadet Valerie Avalon to Communications Dispatcher.

Sergeant Lisa Holton, 40, is a seventeen year veteran officer who joined the department in 2000 after working for both the Mill Valley and Novato Police Departments.  She is a field training officer and crime scene investigator; and her previous assignments have included school resource officer, directed patrol unit, and sex crimes investigator.  She was promoted to corporal in 2004 and has been serving as an acting sergeant since last July.

Corporal Kyle Hornstein, 38, is a San Rafael High School alumnus who joined the department in 2007 after a career in the mortgage banking industry.  He is a self defense and tactics instructor and is currently assigned to Investigations as the property crimes detective.  

Communications Dispatcher Valerie Avalon, 23, joined the department’s cadet program in May 2011.  She is a senior at Sonoma State University and will graduate in May with a degree in criminology.
