San Rafael, CA – January 15, 2012. A San Rafael police officer received minor injuries after he was involved in a traffic collision early Saturday morning.
On Saturday, January 14th at 1:53 a.m. SRPD officers were responding to an apartment building in the 400 block of Canal Street on a disturbance where ten to fifteen subjects were throwing bottles at a vehicle. One subject was reported to be brandishing a gun at the driver.
OfficerJames Bellamy was responding to the call when a vehicle pulled out from the driveway of 555 Francisco Boulevard East into his path. Officer Bellamy was unable to avoid the collision. The driver's side airbag did deploy on Officer Bellamy's vehicle. The other vehicle left the scene and was located abandoned a short distance away on Harbor Street with major rear end damage. The driver and passenger were located walking away from the vehicle. The subjects were detained.
Officer Bellamy suffered minor injuries and went to Kaiser ER where he was examined and released.
The California Highway Patrol investigated the collision. The driver of the other vehicle is unlicensed and uninsured. The CHP is continuing their investigation.
Deputies from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the original disturbance call. The area was checked with negative results.
