San Rafael, CA – December 15, 2011. City Manager Nancy Mackle invites the community to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the City’s Sixteenth Chief of Police.
The City of San Rafael will hold the formal swearing-in for incoming Police Chief Diana Bishop on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 6:00 p.m. in the City’s Council Chambers. The ceremony is open to the public and precedes the scheduled City Council meeting. A brief reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
As the newly appointed Chief of Police, Bishop will lead the 87 person department, oversee the day-to-day operations, and manage an annual budget of $18 million. She is the first woman to hold the position in the City’s history and succeeds Chief Matt Odetto who retired in September.
Chief Bishop, a 26-year veteran, built her career in law enforcement at the Santa Clara Police Department, which she joined in 1985 as a patrol officer. She rose through the ranks, most recently serving as the Investigation Division Captain.
The City Council Chambers are located in San Rafael City Hall at 1400 Fifth Avenue. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
