A known San Rafael gang member was involved in a fight with San Rafael Street Crime Unit Officers after they tried to arrest him for being intoxicated in public.
The suspect, Christian Baker, a 19 year old San Rafael resident, who was on probation for a 2011 stabbing of a rival gang member, was out of jail pending sentencing on that stabbing case when San Rafael Officers contacted him for being intoxicated in public.
Street Crimes Unit Detective George Schikore received minor injuries as a result of Baker fighting with him and resisting arrest. Three officers were needed to subdue Baker who was kicking, spitting and grabbing at officers who were trying to arrest him. During the fight another member of Baker’s gang attempted to intercede but was stopped by the officers.
An additional juvenile suspect who was with Baker was also intoxicated and arrested without incident. The juvenile was later cited and released to a parent.
Baker was booked on felony charges of battery on a peace officer, probation violation, resisting and obstructing an officer and for being intoxicated in public.
