On Wednesday November 23, 2011 at approximately 12:29 p.m., Officers from the San Rafael Police Department responded to Safeway, 950 Las Gallinas Avenue, regarding a possible fraud that had just occurred. According to the clerk, a female suspect attempted to make a purchase with a fraudulent credit card. When the clerk told the suspect that she thought the credit card was fraudulent the suspect grabbed the clerk, assaulted her and forcibly took the credit card from her hand.
The suspect was identified through the course of an investigation as Marcella Brown, 28 of Marin City. Officers were advised to be on the look out for Brown. On Thursday, November 24, 2011 a deputy from the Marin County Sheriff’s Department located Brown driving in Sausalito. The deputy stopped Brown and detained her for San Rafael Police.
Brown was taken into custody. A search of her property revealed numerous cloned credit cards and merchandise that was purchased with the fraudulent cards. Brown was booked into the Marin County Jail for strong arm robbery, commercial burglary, fraudulent use of an access card, identity theft, and a violation of probation. Bail was set at $75,000.
