San Rafael, CA – March 12, 2014. The San Rafael Police Department is launching a new community notification service this week that will allow the department to send important information to the many people who live, work, and visit the city.
Nixle is a quick, efficient, and secure way to convey messages and alerts to community members who subscribe to the system. Individuals can choose to receive alerts as a cell phone text message, by email, or both. Subscribers may choose one or
more agencies by zip code. For example a San Rafael resident who works in Novato and has a child attending school in Mill Valley could sign up to receive alerts from all those areas. Subscribing to Nixle is free, however standard text message rates may apply.
“Nixle is one more valuable tool for us to use when we need to share important information with our community,” said Police Chief Diana Bishop. “When you receive a message from SRPD via Nixle, you will know it can be trusted.”
Nixle is a San Francisco-based company whose service was built exclusively to enable law enforcement and other municipal agencies to provide secure and reliable communications. San Rafael joins the Central Marin Police Authority, the Novato, Sausalito, Mill Valley, and College of Marin Police Departments, as well as CHP-Marin Area in providing this service in Marin County.
Registering for the service is very easy. Sign up below or text your zip code to 888777.
