San Rafael, CA – June 24, 2013. The City of San Rafael is pleased to welcome back Italian Street Painting after a two-year absence. This popular event returns to downtown next weekend, June 29th and 30th. The art of Madonnari, or chalk street painting, dates back to 16th century Italy. Modern Madonnari artists from around the world will be painting the streets of San Rafael. This amazing art will be accompanied by a variety of music, wine, and food.
Italian Street Painting Marin takes place at Fifth Avenue and A Street on Saturday, June 29th, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, June 30th, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tickets are $5.00 per person, children age 12 and under are free. Attendees will receive a wrist band good for one day entry, which includes in and out privileges. Tickets are only available on-site. Tickets may be purchased at the main gate at Fourth and A Streets, or the entrances at Fifth Avenue and B Street or Fifth Avenue and Court Street. Media passes are only available at the main gate.
Kids between 2 and 12 are invited to become mini Madonnari. For $10.00 a child will be provided with a box of chalk and a 2’ X 2’ street square on Children’s Avenue where they can design their own street art.
