San Rafael CA. At approximately 1020hrs an employee of a business that faced the San Rafael Canal Waterways called SRPD to report a body or a mannequin floating in the waters. The body was reported to be near the docks of some homes on the Canal side of the waterway near Canal Street and Kerner Blvd.
San Rafael Police deployed their Rapid Rescue Boat and arrived within minutes and discovered that the body was real. The victim was a male who appeared to have been in the water too long for any attempts to resuscitate him. Police Officers removed the body from the water and released the body to the custody of the Marin County Sheriff / Coroner for further investigation.
No obvious evidence of foul play was seen at the time of the recovery. SRPD and the Sheriff / Coroner will conduct an investigation to verify the identity of the victim and to attempt to determine the cause of death.
SRPD will not release the name of the victim pending positive identification and notification of his family.
