Cell Store Gunman In Custody

San Rafael, CA – February 14, 2013.  Thanks to assistance from the public, the gunman wanted for the attempted armed robbery of a San Rafael cell phone store was identified and is now in custody in Washington.

Clarence Herman Wright was arrested in the early hours of Monday, February 11th after being involved in a shooting in Tukwila,Washington.   Wright is suspected of shooting two men at a residence in the small city that borders Seattle. Wright fled the scene on foot but was quickly located by a Tukwila PD K9 team and taken into custody.  Once in custody, officers discovered that Wright had received a gunshot wound to his shoulder during the incident.  The shooting victims, a father and his 20 year old son, were both wounded and their injuries were not life threatening.

Wright, age 35 and a Vallejo resident, is wanted for the attempted robbery and shooting at Variedades Cellular on Saturday, January 19th.   Wright went into the Medway Road business, brandished a handgun and demanded money.  The three employees ran into a back room that is protected by bullet-proof glass. He attempted to follow them and fired his gun in their direction, narrowly missing one of them.  The entire event was captured by the store’s video surveillance camera and the video was widely distributed by the media.  That video release led to several tips and good leads from the public, eventually resulting in the identification of Wright.  Detectives have been actively searching for Wright and last week obtained a $2 million dollar arrest warrant for attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), and felon in possession of a firearm.

Wright was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.  He is currently being held in the King County Jail on $4 million dollars bail.  He will remain in Washington until their case is adjudicated and then will be returned to Marin County.
