San Rafael, CA– February 12, 2013. The gunman wanted for the December shooting at the San Rafael Transit Center is now in custody in New Orleans.
Ladrakeous Sonny Dean was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force on Monday, February 11th. Dean was visiting a friend for Mardi Gras and was arrested without incident at a home on Gladiolus Street in the city’s Gentilly Terrace district. The friend was unaware of Dean’s fugitive status.
Dean is wanted for attempted murder and a parole violation for the December 14, 2012 shooting. He approached the male victim on Platform D at the transit center, shot him at close range, and fled in a gold sedan. The 22 year old victim ran and collapsed a short distance away. The victim sustained serious injuries but has since been released from the hospital. At the time of the shooting Dean was on parole for a home invasion robbery in Solano County.
Since the shooting SRPD detectives have been following numerous leads and working with the California Department of Justice and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force to locate Dean. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sex offenders. Dean is currently being held in the Orleans Parish Prison pending extradition back to California.
