Interrupted Burglary Prompts Search

San Rafael, CA – December 20, 2012.  A residential burglary in the Dominican area resulted in a search for the burglars and a precautionary lockdown at Coleman School this afternoon.

An alert resident in the unit block of Rafael Drive called SRPD shortly before 3 p.m. after seeing three suspicious men around her neighbor’s house.  Arriving officers found one of the suspects on the street and he was taken into custody.  Meanwhile, witnesses reported seeing the other two suspects run down Watt Avenue and disappear into the bushes near the creek.  Officers began a thorough search, assisted by a Novato Police Department K9 team. Coleman Elementary School is right in the middle of the search area and they were asked to keep the students inside as a precaution.  This happened right at the end of the school day and parents who came to pick up their children either waited in the school or in their cars.  The search was concluded about 5 p.m. and the students were allowed to go home.  Unfortunately, the suspects were not located but some property from the victim’s residence and other evidence items were recovered.

Tyrone Demond Robinson, age 21, all points San Rafael, was arrested and booked at Marin County Jail for residential burglary and conspiracy.  The two outstanding suspects are described as African American males, one wearing a gray sweatshirt.  Small electronics and a bicycle were taken in the burglary and the investigation is continuing.
