San Rafael, CA – November 14, 2012. One man was shot and two others are in police custody after a gang-related fight last night in downtown San Rafael.
On Tuesday at 8:16 p.m. police received several calls reporting shots fired and men fighting in the street at the intersection of Fourth Street and Tamaplais Avenue. Arriving officers found a male victim on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Witnesses said that four male suspects fled in a dark colored car. The victim, a 26 year old San Rafael resident, was treated by San Rafael Fire Department paramedics and transported to Marin General Hospital. He underwent surgery last night and is expected to survive.
SRPD’s Street Crimes Unit and detectives worked through the evening interviewing witnesses and following leads. Their diligence resulted in the arrest of two of the four suspects within a few hours. Franklin Samuel Deleon Vicente, 24, and Jorge Luis Martinez, age 20, were arrested in the 200 block of Woodland Avenue shortly after midnight. They were both booked at Marin County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and participating in a criminal gang. Their bail is set at $50,000 each and their first court appearance is Thursday at 9:00 a.m. The investigation is continuing, as is the search for the remaining two suspects.
