Motel Standoff Ends Peacefully

San Rafael, CA – June 9, 2012. A two and one-half hour standoff at a San Rafael motel ended peacefully just after noon today.

At 9:40 a.m. SRPD officers went to the Villa Inn at 1600 Lincoln Avenue after a woman called and reported that her daughter was being held against her will at the motel.  The woman said that her daughter called her from her cell phone and said that her boyfriend had a gun and would not let her leave the room.  The couple, age 21 and 23, had been staying at the motel for the past few days. Approximately 35 officers from San Rafael, Marin County Sheriff, Novato, and Twin Cities police departments responded, along with SWAT teams and hostage negotiators.  Both floors on the eastside of the motel were evacuated and negotiators established contact with both parties in the room.  At 12:14 p.m. officers heard a gunshot fired inside the room and immediately entered, using loud diversionary devices.  Both the man and woman were taken into custody and are presently being interviewed by detectives.  There were no injuries to either of them or to any of the officers involved.

The investigation is continuing and neither parties name will be released at this time
