San Rafael, CA – December 15, 2011. Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the murder of Ashley Yamauchi. The quest to identify and arrest the suspect in this senseless killing remains foremost on the minds of San Rafael detectives. The San Rafael Police Department is willing to make every effort necessary to solve this case and we need the public’s help.
On December 16, 2008 the partially clad body of Ashley Yamauchi was found in the parking lot behind the Fourth Street Tavern at 711 Fourth Street. Yamauchi, 33, had been sexually assaulted and died of asphyxiation. She was the mother of an 8 year old daughter and worked as a nanny for a San Rafael family. Ashley was in the Tavern the previous evening watching Monday Night Football and was last seen alive as she left through the back door with a man she met at the bar. Her body was discovered the next morning by a downtown business owner. Detectives have been working on this case over the past three years, following up on numerous leads and coordinating the analysis of evidence recovered from the scene. During this past year detectives have been working with cold case specialists and criminal profilers to develop additional lines of inquiry. DNA evidence has been obtained but has not yet led to an identifiable suspect.
Exactly one year ago, a $50,000 reward was provided from the California Governor’s Reward Program. The reward is paid if the information provided leads to the arrest and conviction in a California court of the individual or individuals charged with the crime. The reward offer did result in a few new leads, but nothing substantial. San Rafael Police remain hopeful that this sizeable reward will prompt new witnesses or new information leading to an arrest, thus providing justice for Ashley and closure for her family.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Ashley Yamauchi tip line at 415-458-2399 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
