Bank Teller Connected in Bank Robbery Arrested in Petaluma

San Rafael, CA - On Friday, March 10, 2017, the Westamerica Bank located at 1 Mitchell Blvd in the Terra Linda area of San Rafael was robbed by a black male suspect (see previous press release for details).

On Saturday, March 11, 2017, at approximately 1130 hrs San Rafael Police Officers arrested Cedric Ray Vincent, 21, from San Rafael, for robbing the Westamerica Bank.  Vincent had evidence from the robbery in his possession (see previous press release for details).

SRPD Detective Cpl. Scott Ingels and Detective Cpl. Alex Holm executed a search warrant on Cedric Vincent’s cell phone over the weekend.

At the time of the robbery, on Friday, Det. Ingels and Det. Holm recognized the victim teller as a person SRPD had contacted in the past.  The detectives wondered if it was a coincidence that the victim teller was the target of the robbery. Using contact information the teller provided to the detectives at the time of the robbery, Det. Holm searched call logs on the suspect’s cell phone for any phone calls with the victim teller’s number.  Det. Holm found the teller had communicated with Vincent within 48 hours of the bank robbery on more than one occasion.  A message was found that indicated they were connected and communicating about an event that was to occur on the same day as the robbery.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at approximately 7:00 PM, SRPD Detectives located and arrested the teller, Javier Corona-Leyva, 20, at his apartment in Petaluma, CA.  Corona-Leyva was arrested without incident.  A search warrant was executed by SRPD Detectives at his home with the assistance of Petaluma Police.

SRPD Detectives booked Javier Corona Leyva at the Marin County Jail for Robbery, Grand Theft, Embezzlement, Conspiracy and Burglary.
