Local man arrested for spray painting Chicken characters all over downtown San Rafael

Over the past three months, the downtown San Rafael area has been plagued with a chicken character spray-painted on the city and private property.  There has been eleven documented vandalism that contains the same chicken character.

The Special Operations Unit that deals specifically with downtown-related issues opened an investigation and was able to develop information that Joshua David Edelstein, a 41-year-old man from San Rafael was a suspect.

On 11/29/16, Edelstein was seen riding his bicycle through Albert Park with a can of spray paint in his hand and what looked like fresh spray paint on his clothing.   He was arrested, and numerous other cans of spray paint were located on his person along with narcotics and paraphernalia.   He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on felony vandalism and drug related charges.

On 12/09/16, Edelstein pled guilty to 4 counts of possession of a controlled substance, four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of possession of vandalism tools.   He was sentenced to 9 months in the county jail because he refused probation.
