A San Rafael man was arrested Monday afternoon after he was seen running from the scene of an attempted burglary.
On November 8th about 2 p.m. Officer Leslie O’Toole was working in Terra Linda, patrolling areas that have been experiencing daytime burglaries. She was on Esmeyer Drive at Tamarack when she saw a man running down the street. The man, later identified as Francisco Rojas, Jr., was dressed completely in black with a hooded sweatshirt up over his head. Within one minute of the officer contacting Rojas, SRPD dispatch reported an audible burglary alarm at a home just down the street. Officers went immediately to the home in the 700 block of Tamarack Drive and discovered fresh pry marks on a side door. The pry attempt caused the alarm activation and apparently scared off the suspect. A neighbor witness described a man he saw running from the scene and later positively identified Rojas.
Rojas, age 20, was booked at Marin County Jail for burglary and violation of probation. He is currently on probation for possession of stolen property. Bail was set at $50,000.
SRPD and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a series of five burglaries or attempts that have occurred in the Terra Linda area over the last ten days. We ask all residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or cars in their neighborhoods. One vehicle in particular has been associated with some of these crimes. The car is a white Cadillac and may be occupied by one or more African American males.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
