Suspect Arrested After Downtown Shooting

San Rafael CA:  At approximately 8:52PM San Rafael Police Officers received several 911 calls reporting a man with a gun at a downtown apartment complex located in the 900 Block of Lincoln Avenue.

A witness saw the suspect with a shotgun standing on a second story balcony as he fired a round off downward toward the building.  The suspect was then seen as he jumped with the shotgun in hand to a lower balcony where he fired a second round at an unknown direction.  San Rafael Officers immediately responded and shut down surface streets for a one block area as other officers responded directly to the area the suspect was last seen standing.  SRPD Officers directed downtown patrons go inside open businesses for safety as they searched for the suspect.

A citizen who witnessed the shootings ordered the suspect to stop and to get on the ground, prior to the officers arrival.  The suspect complied.  The citizen took the suspect into custody and walked the suspect through an unsecured apartment and out the front door of the complex, turning the suspect over to officers.

A loaded shotgun was found in a parking lot below the balcony where the suspect was seen and eventually contacted by the citizen.

The suspect was found to be in possession of several shotgun rounds as well as some knives.

The suspect was booked for (2) Two counts of discharging a firearm in a gross negligent manner a felony.  Other charges may also be filed as this case continues to be investigated.
