Surveillance Camera Registry Program

In the San Rafael Police Department’s continued vision of developing and maintaining a problem solving partnership with our community, we have developed a new private surveillance camera registry.  The registry allows residents and business owners to voluntarily register their surveillance cameras with the police department.  Police will not have access to the camera systems, but will be aware that a camera exists when investigating a crime in or around their neighborhood.

Previously, officers were often tasked with going door-to-door asking residents and business owners if security cameras are present. The new system will significantly increase the efficiency of this process.  Using the information provided by our community, the registered cameras will be plotted on a map, which will only be available to personnel within the San Rafael Police Department.  If a crime occurs in the vicinity of a registered surveillance camera, investigators may use the contact information to request surveillance footage.  Camera footage may include the actual crime, or an escape route which can provide descriptive information that can lead to the identification and ultimately the prosecution of a suspect.

Do you have a surveillance camera at your residence or business?  The registration process only takes a few minutes.  Please visit our website to register your cameras.  http://www.srpd.org/cameraregistration

If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Community Services Officer Antonette Bullock at 415-485-3114 or at 511@srpd.org
