San Rafael, CA – September 21, 2011. A San Rafael man was arrested yesterday after students reported incidents of verbal and physical abuse occurring during their afterschool program.
On Tuesday, the principal of San Pedro Elementary School notified SRPD that she had just learned of two separate incidents of physical abuse to a child that occurred on the campus over the past two weeks. Officers interviewed the victims, 10 and 11 year old boys, who reported that they were physically assaulted by a man in their afterschool program. The 10 year old said that he was poked in the chest and pushed backwards into a wall, causing him to hit the back of his head. The other boy described being poked in the chest and pushed to the ground. Both children had corresponding injuries.
Anthony Guido Rose, age 49, was arrested at his home late Tuesday afternoon. He was booked at Marin County Jail for inflicting injury on a child and cruelty to a child, both felonies. Bail was set at $50,000. Rose is a paid tutor in an afterschool academic and enrichment program that operates on the campus. The program is run by a third party non-profit that contracts with the school district. Rose is not an employee of the school district or the City of San Rafael. His first court appearance is set for October 11th.
This investigation is continuing. Any one with information is asked to call SRPD at 415.485.3000.
