San Rafael, CA – June 27, 2014. A San Rafael man has been arrested for the sexual assault of a young girl that occurred at his home earlier this week.
On Monday afternoon, June 23rd, San Rafael Police were notified by Marin General Hospital that a sexual assault victim had been brought to the Emergency Room by her mother. The 14 year-old victim told officers that she was assaulted earlier in the day at an apartment on North Avenue in San Rafael. The suspect was known to the victim and identified as Aorrell Burrell, age 35.
Investigators searched for Burrell throughout the afternoon and about 9:30 p.m. he was located at a relative’s home in Hayward. Burrell was making threats to kill himself and Hayward Police officers went to a residence on Lund Avenue to contact him. The suspect ran out the back of the home and a Hayward Police K9 team was used to apprehend him. The K9 bit the suspect and he was taken into custody without further incident. Burrell was hospitalized for medical treatment and released from the hospital this afternoon. He was immediately transported to Marin County Jail and booked on multiple felony charges, including rape by force and rape of an unconscious victim. Due to the heinous nature of the crime, a bail enhancement was requested. The request was granted by Judge Chou and bail was set at one million dollars. Burrell’s first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, June 30th at 9:00 a.m.
