San Rafael, CA – March 19, 2014. Avoid the Marin 13 agencies conducted saturation patrols during the Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations. There were no reported DUI related collisions during the weekend and on Saint Patrick’s Day throughout Marin County.
Due to an aggressive regional and statewide awareness campaign the ramifications related to impaired driving apparently were successful.
On Monday, March 17, 2014 (Saint Patrick’s Day) officers from San Rafael, Novato, Central Marin, and Tiburon Police Departments conducted eleven saturation patrols that resulted in 28 traffic stops. Seven field sobriety tests were administered; however none of the drivers were impaired and unsafe to operate their vehicles.
One driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license, three unlicensed drivers were cited, and four people were arrested for criminal offenses.
Although there was a focus on impaired driving enforcement during the Saint Patrick’s Day weekend, all of the Avoid the Marin 13 agencies aggressively enforce DUI laws throughout the year.
The national Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown is led by NHTSA with the California Avoid DUI Campaign combining high-visibility enforcement and heightened public awareness through publicity.
