Two Pedestrians Struck by Dump Truck, One Pedestrian Killed

San Rafael, CA - On Friday, January 3, 2014, at 12:17 P.M., San Rafael police officers responded to the intersection of Third Street and Hetherton Street for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Arriving San Rafael police officers and San Rafael fire and paramedics located a 67 year-old female and a 68 year-old man lying in the roadway.  Medical aid was rendered to both victims.  Unfortunately the female victim, identified by the Marin County Coroner’s Office as Olga Rodriguez, a Novato resident, was declared deceased at the scene.  The male victim was transported to Marin General Hospital with major injuries.   The male victim’s name is not being released at this time.

The driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.  It appears that alcohol intoxication or any other impairment was not a factor in the collision.  The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

SRPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the collision.  The California Highway Patrol Commercial Operations Unit assisted with the investigation and conducted a vehicle inspection of the dump truck.

The intersection of Third Street and Hetherton Street is located near the San Rafael Transit Center and is a high traffic area.  Accident investigators would like to speak with all available witnesses.  If you witnessed the collision and have not yet spoken with an officer, please call SRPD at 415.485.3000.
