Bank Robber Linked to San Rafael Crimes

San Rafael, CA – December 19, 2013.  Christopher Jay Wootton, already in custody for last week’s Novato bank robbery and pursuit, has been linked to two previous robberies in San Rafael.

SRPD Investigators have identified Wootton as the suspect responsible for the following bank robberies in San Rafael:

  • September 4, 2013 at 9:18 a.m., Redwood Credit Union, 209 Third Street
  • October 30, 2013 at 9:08 a.m., Wells Fargo Bank, 600 Las Gallinas Avenue.

These two cases have been sent to the Marin County District Attorney for a complaint request against Wooton.  He was booked into the Marin County Jail on Tuesday on one count of robbery and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) on a peace officer. The initial robbery charge stems from the crime that occurred on Wednesday, December 11th at a Novato branch of Bank of the West on Grant Avenue.  Wootton was shot by police after fleeing from a deputy, crashing his getaway car in San Rafael, and confronting officers with a handgun. He is scheduled for a felony arraignment at 9:00 a.m. this morning in Marin County Superior Court.
