Bank Robber Booked Into Jail

San Rafael, CA – December 17, 2013.  Christopher Wootton, suspect in last week’s Novato bank robbery and pursuit, has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

Wootton was released from Marin General Hospital this afternoon about 1:00 p.m. and booked into

the Marin County Jail on one count of robbery and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) on a peace officer.  His bail was enhanced to two million dollars due to the severity of his crimes. Wootton’s first court appearance has not been scheduled yet.  The robbery charge stems from the crime that occurred on Wednesday, December 11th at a Novato branch of Bank of the West on Grant Avenue.  Wootton was shot by police after fleeing from a deputy, crashing his getaway car in San Rafael, and confronting officers with a handgun.

The extensive investigation into the so-called “Cotton Ball Bandit” bank robbery series is continuing.  The multi-jurisdictional inquiry is comprised of four agencies – San Rafael PD, Novato PD, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and Central Marin Police Authority – and includes 11 robberies.  Investigators are working on the link between the individual crimes and determining if they can be connected to Wootton.  All the cases are being compiled and sent to the Marin County District Attorney for review and charges.
