Case Number: SR13-08672
San Rafael, CA – November 16, 2013. On November 15, 2013, around 10:00 PM, San Rafael Police Detectives located and arrested Alphonso Miguel Pazos, a 56 year old San Rafael resident, as the lead suspect in the robbery that occurred at the Citibank in Terra Linda. Pazos was found at a Santa Rosa hotel located in the 3300 block of Santa Rosa Avenue. Two additional persons, a man and a woman, were also arrested for aiding and abetting Pazos. Pazos was booked into the Marin County Jail for Bank Robbery and is being held on $75,000 bail.
The incident started on earlier in the day at about 11:07 AM, when Pazos entered the CitiBank at 1004 Northgate Drive in San Rafael. Pazos walked into the bank, brandished a modified air pistol and demanded money. Pazos fumbled with his hoodie and his face was captured on surveillance video. Pazos then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. Nobody was injured during the robbery.
SRPD Officers arrived on scene and reviewed the bank surveillance video. Sergeant Mike Vergara said that Pazos was caught on high resolution video robbing the bank. As a result, Pazos’ photograph and the bank surveillance footage were quickly broadcast to the public. Sergeant Mike Vergara said an article was published in the Marin Independent Journal and around 4:00 PM, a tipster who saw the article contacted the police and provided information about the suspect.
SRPD Detectives determined that Pazos was staying at a hotel in Santa Rosa and conducted surveillance with the assistance of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department. Around 10:00 PM, Pazos and two other persons walked out of the hotel and got into two separate vehicles. Both vehicles were stopped and Pazos and the other two persons were taken into police custody. Detectives also recovered money and the weapon used in the robbery.
The other two persons that were arrested for aiding and abetting Pazos were released on bail from the Marin County Jail. Their names have not been released since the investigation is ongoing.
Pazos is not believed to be the serial bank robber that has struck in San Rafael, Greenbrae, Corte Madera, San Anselmo, and Mill Valley.
The San Rafael Police Department appreciates the assistance it received from the community and local media.
