New Years Eve Weekend Starts with a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint

San Rafael, CA – December 28, 2012.  On Friday evening personnel from the Avoid the Marin 13 partner agencies conducted a checkpoint at the intersection of Andersen Drive and Gary Place for both west and east bound directions of travel.  The checkpoint ran from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM.  It was stopped due to heavy rain.  Nine hundred and thirteen vehicles passed through the checkpoint.       

Thirteen field sobriety tests were given and one driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. 

Additional results from the operation were;

  • One driver operating with suspended licenses was arrested. 
  • Five unlicensed drivers were contacted, cited, and released.
  • Ten traffic citations were issued.
  • Three vehicles were towed.

This operation is part of the on-going traffic safety effort over the period of December 14th to January 1st.  Checkpoints, strike teams and other DUI/DL directed enforcement activities will take place daily throughout this period to promote public safety.    

The operation was funded by the Avoid Campaign DUI / Drivers License Grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
