San Rafael PD Continues Intensive Crackdown on Impaired Driving

Law Enforcement Isn’t Easing Up; Everyone Found Driving Over the Limit Will Be Arrested

San Rafael, Ca – September 2, 2011.  San Rafael Police Department today announced it has joined nearly 10,000 other law enforcement agencies nationwide in support of an intensive crackdown on impaired driving August 19 – September 5, known as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

A DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint was held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the intersection of Lincoln and Grand Avenues in partnership with law enforcement nationwide during the Summer/Labor Day Campaign.   It ran from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
One thousand, two hundred and twenty one (1,221) vehicles passed through the screening lanes that checked both north and south bound traffic.
Six suspected intoxicated drivers were given field sobriety tests, but none of them were found to be legally impaired.  No DUI arrests were made.
However, five drivers operating their vehicles with suspended licenses were arrested, and six unlicensed drivers were cited.
One driver with an outstanding warrant was arrested and two moving safety violations were issued.  Ten vehicles were towed.     
The Marin  County Avoid the 13 Task Force has also deployed DUI Driver’s License Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force operations and local Roving DUI patrols during 18 day Summer/Labor Day Campaign.
