Man Shot at Transit Center

San Rafael, CA – December 14, 2012.  San Rafael Police are searching for the gunman who shot a man on a downtown transit center platform early this afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m. the 22 year-old victim was standing on Platform D when a man came from the Tamalpais Avenue side of the platform and shot at him.  The victim ran through the center, collapsing near a bench on Platform B.  The gunman got into a gold sedan which headed to Second Street and then south onto Highway 101.  An APB was issued and the county-wide roadblock plan was implemented but the vehicle was not located.

The victim was aided by bystanders until San Rafael Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported him to Marin General Hospital.  He is currently in surgery and the extent of his injuries are not known at this time.

The suspect is described as an African American male, between 6’2” and 6’4”, wearing dark clothing and armed with a handgun. Transit Center Platforms C and D are closed while the crime scene is processed. Platforms A and B remain open and Golden Gate Transit is routing all bus traffic through those two platforms.
