Interrupted Burglary in North San Rafael

San Rafael, CA – September 19, 2012.  A daytime burglary was interrupted by the homeowner in the Captain’s Cove neighborhood.

On Tuesday September 18th at 11:15 a.m. a resident on Sailmaker Court came downstairs and surprised a man in her living room.  She screamed at him and he ran out of the house.  She watched as he fled in a dark green mini-van and she called 911.  Within a few minutes San Rafael officers located the green Nissan Quest as it headed eastbound across the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge.

Officers attempted a traffic stop on the east side of the bridge but the van sped off and a vehicle pursuit ensued on the freeway and into the city streets of Richmond.  After a short pursuit through city streets the driver and two passengers abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Richmond Police responded to the scene to assist but the suspects were not located.

Officers at the initial burglary scene conducted a canvass of the area for witnesses, clues or other victims. They discovered another home down the street had been burglarized using the same M.O.   The owner of that home, who was not home at the time of the burglary, was contacted and confirmed that items were missing from the residence.  Those items were found in the van recovered in Richmond.

The victim was only able to describe the man she discovered in her home.  He is an African American male with a stocky build, approximately 6’ tall and with a shaved head.    The two passengers are African American males with no further descriptions available.  Investigators are following several leads and hope to identify the primary suspect in this crime shortly.
