San Rafael Police Investigating Attempted Kidnapping

On Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at approximately 12:57 a.m a woman reported she was the victim of an attempted kidnapping. The victim left work on Civic Center Drive and walked toward the bus stop at the Marin County Civic Center. As she neared the bus stop she realized that she missed the last bus. The victim turned to walk back to her place of employment.

The victim was walking north on the west side Civic Center Drive when a dark colored minivan with tinted windows pulled up behind her. The victim stated a man got out of the van, grabbed her from behind and began pulling her toward the van’s open sliding door. The victim fought back, striking the suspect with her umbrella. The suspect let go of the victim and fled the area in the van. The van was last seen driving south on Civic Center Drive. The victim ran from the area and called police. Officers from the San Rafael Police Department and Marin County Sheriff’s Office searched the area but did not locate the van.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic male adult between twenty and thirty years of age. He was approximately 5-08 with a muscular build. The victim reported the suspect smelled of alcohol and body odor.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
